Evelyn Barbier Simoneaux

Evelyn Barbier Simoneaux, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the age of 86. She was the loving wife of 65 years to the late Mervin J. Simoneaux Sr. A native of Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Denham Springs, LA where she was a devoted Catholic and Parishioner of St. Louis King of France and St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Evelyn was the beloved mother of Dana Simoneaux (Phil), Mervin (Joey) Simoneaux Jr. (Sandy) and Brent Simoneaux (Lona). She is also survived by her sons-in-law, Billy Bourgeois and Donald Smart; her sister, Ella Mae Barbier and her brother, Kenneth (Bubby) Barbier Sr. She was the loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Evelyn is preceded in death by her daughters, Merlyn Bourgeois and Terri Smart; her parents, Shelby Bruno Barbier Sr. and Rosalie Mary Guillot; and her brothers, Shelby “Butch” Barbier Jr., Everett J. Barbier and Bruce A. Barbier. She is also preceded in death by her great-grandchildren Ezra, Kaleb and Noel Pinkston.

In her free time Evelyn loved dancing with the love of her life, Mervin (especially to their favorite song, “Blue Berry Hill”), playing card games and dominos with her children, grandchildren and friends. She loved the days when she was working in her flower garden and watching LSU tigers and Saints football. She was a member of the St. Louis King of France Altar Society and enjoyed making funnel cakes for the annual church fairs.

Pallbearers in honor of Evelyn will be: Cody Devall, Zack Devall, Eric Simoneaux, Derek Bourgeois, Donald (Shelby) Smart and Alvin Freemyer.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 1 pm until funeral service at 2 pm.
