Evelyn Devillier Stewart

A loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, she passed away peacefully in her room at St. Clare Manor at 7 a.m.Tuesday, April 3, 2007. She was 93. "Mumzie" was 93, born in 1913, inLakePelba. She was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1940, when she and her husband and their two boys moved from Krotz Springs to Baton Rouge, where her husband accepted a job at Ethyl Corp. Everyone in "old Istrouma" knew that the "Welcome" mat was always out and "Ms. Evelyn's" door was always open for friends who stopped by for a warm meal or a cup of coffee on the corner of Winbourne and Canonicus. For the past 20 years, she lived a blessed life surrounded by family in the comfort of the home of her loving son and daughter-in-law, Loyd and Leona Stewart. She spent the most recent two years in the exceptional quality and comfort of her friends and caregivers at St. Clare Manor and St. Joseph's Hospice. A selfless heart that always gave in love, she shaped and influenced the lives of not only her grandchildren, but anyone who knew her. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, April 4, from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m.Religious service at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Krotz Springs at 3 p.m.Thursday, April 5. Interment in the church cemetery. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Loyd and Leona Stewart; grandchildren and their spouses, Cindy and Ty McCormick, Gary and Cathy Stewart, Robert "Stan" Stewart, Christy and Lance Simmons, Phillip "P-Ty" Stewart and Jane Stewart; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters and a brother-in-law, Ann and Glen "Buddy" Riffel, and Cecile DelBueno; and two nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles "Kinney" and Anaise LeGrand Devillier; loving husband, Joseph Stanton "Boone" Stewart; youngest son, John Phillip Stewart; and first granddaughter, Sheryl Lynn Stewart. Pallbearers will be Ty McCormick, Gary Stewart, Stan Stewart, Phillip "P-Ty" Stewart, Lance Simmons, Evan Little and Zach Stewart. We will always love you.
