Faye is survived by her husband of 66 years, John H. Brydels, Sr., of Baton Rouge, LA and their three children, Deborah Ann Brydels Buco (Dr. Steven Buco), Kathy Christine Brydels Seger (Jon Seger), and John Henry Brydels, Jr., all of Baton Rouge. She is survived by eight grandchildren; Benjamin Buco of Baton Rouge, LA, Daniel (Rebekah) Buco of Baton Rouge, LA, Rev. David (Rev. Alma) Buco of Avoca, NE, Dr. Steven (Dr. Ellen) Buco, Jr. of Memphis, TN, Jennifer (Jason) Seger-Paisley of Wilmington, NC, Allyson Seger (Steven Cassidy) of Austin, TX, Sarah Seger of Houston, TX, and Katherine Seger of Brooklyn, NY. She is further survived by six great grandchildren; Faye Malyn Buco, Jackson Paul Buco, Savannah Mae Buco, Brooks Lee Buco of Baton Rouge, LA and Hailey Renee Seger-Paisley and Gabriel Luke Seger-Paisley of Wilmington, NC.
She is also survived by a sister Gloria “Teasie” (Dr. Thomas) Hennigan of Natchitoches, LA, a brother Dr. Daniel “Danny” Crump of Starkville, MS, and in laws Madelane (Robert “Bob”) Bender of Fort Wayne, IN, Clementine Michiels of Alexandria, LA and Judy Brydels of Alexandria, LA.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Lyla Christine Crump, her brother Waymond “Bud” Crump and sister in law Joyce Crump of Marthaville, LA and in laws Catherine and Ray Turner of Alexandria, LA, Jules, Jr. and Mavis Brydels of Lake Charles, LA, Joseph “Joe” Michiels of Alexandria, LA and Francis Joseph “Jack” Verzwyvelt of Alexandria, LA.
Faye was born on December 31, 1930 in Marthaville, LA to parents Lawrence and Lyla Christine Prothro Crump. She graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA in 1951.
Faye was a Home Economics teacher for over 35 years, retiring from teaching at Woodlawn High School in 1994. While at Woodlawn, she was the advisor of the FHA club and sponsor of the annual FHA Beauty Pageant. She was loved by her former students who would greet her around town with hugs and kisses. She sponsored annual trips for her students to places such as Natchez Pilgrimage, Gatlinburg, Houston, Atlanta, and the World’s Fair in New Orleans.
After retirement, Faye devoted her time to her beautiful
yard and flower beds. She became an avid painter and wood carver. She loved carving birds and butterflies.
She co-authored a Louisiana cookbook, “Froggy Bottom”, with her long-time friend and co-worker Donna Jenkins. She also authored a children’s activity book, “Makin’ Memories."
Faye loved her eight grandchildren. Before her illness, she made ceramic Santa boots, Easter sugar eggs, Fourth of July desserts, jams and pickles with them. She loved taking them to the park for picnics and delighted in watching them play sports. She also coached girls’ softball.
Faye was a member of University United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, LA.
Visitation will be Monday, August 20 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Greenoaks Funeral Home at 9595 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge, LA.
Visitation will continue on Tuesday, August 21 from 9 AM to 11 AM at University United Methodist Church at 3350 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge, LA.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 21 at 11 AM at University United Methodist Church at 3350 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge, LA.
Reverend Ken Carroll will officiate, and Reverend Carol Civils will assist.
