Filomena Rita DiJohn, age 91, passed away on October 15, 2015 after an illness. She was a resident of Baton Rouge for the past 57 years. She was devoted to her faith, family, friends and community. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, the Women's Dental Auxiliary, the Tara Garden Club and the Public Library Volunteers. Rita was born and educated in Boston, Massachusetts. After high school she graduated from Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts. Rita was passionate about good health and nutrition. She made it her life's work to generously care for her family and friends. She was known for preparing beautiful Italian meals and was featured in the newspaper alongside her greatest admirer, husband, "Tony". She could light up a room like no other, with her elegant Bostonian style. She dearly loved entertaining, her summer vacations on Cape Cod, and her trips to New York City. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Rocco Grilli and Margaret Gaeta Grilli, brother Henry Grilli, and son, Joseph Anthony DiJohn. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dr. Anthony J. DiJohn; daughter, Margaret Rita DiJohn, sons, Michael DiJohn and Carl Rocco DiJohn, daughter-in-law, Sheliah DiJohn, grandson, Michael Anthony DiJohn and granddaughter, Romni Louise DiJohn. Special gratitude to Diane Hunter, Rita Crifasi, Renee & Michael Crowell, DeEtte & Michael Montalbano, RoseMary Eagan and family, Ann Middleton, The Selby Family, Maggie Chesson, Lois Crow, Thomas Vernell Sr., The Grilli Family, The Cusolito Family, Jeannine and Tom Maguire, Robert Barquinero. Also, Dr. Carl Luikart, Dr. John Prestigiacomo, Sammy, Andrea and the staff at Serop's, St. Clare Manor staff, St. Joseph Hospice, and Cypress Home Health. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 20, from 9 to 10:30, with a funeral mass at 10:30. Burial immediately following mass at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
