
A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Murray, Ky., she died at Sunrise Assisted Living Facility on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009. She taught home economics for 42 years in Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri and Louisiana. She was a former member of Grace Baptist Church where her husband served as pastor for 21 years. She was a faithful Sunday school teacher and choir member at Grace Baptist Church. After retirement, she became a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher for 10 years. A charming homemaker and accomplished seamstress, Frances devoted her entire life to helping her husband of 58 years become prepared for the ministry and also in serving side by side with him throughout his entire ministry. Survived by her husband, Dr. Kelly Fitzgerald; brother, Terry Grant, Florence, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Grant, Florence, and June Nichols, Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, James D. and Ina Malone Grant; and six siblings. Visiting at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., on Friday, Oct. 9, from noon until religious services at 2 p.m., conducted by Dr. Jarrett Banks, Dr. John Goodwin and Dr. George Haile. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Max Futch, David Broome, Bill Mote, Mike Robinson, Larry Davis, Henry Chiles, Cary Beam and Walt Morris. Honorary pallbearer is the Rev. Jim Riley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
