Francis L. Pollard

Born July 21, 1917, and a resident of Baton Rouge since 1926, Lorene died at 9:58 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at her home. She was 92, having just celebrated her birthday. Born in King City, Mo., she and her family moved to Baton Rouge when she was 6. Visitation at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 12:30 p.m. until a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Arrangements by Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Pollard Van Hecke and Hubert Van Hecke; two sons and their wives, Jeffrey A. Pollard and Glenda Shannon Pollard, and O. Miles Pollard Jr. and Mary Fitzpatrick Pollard; grandchildren, Saskia Van Hecke, Niels Van Hecke, Peyton Pollard, Mary Claire "Bo" Pollard Parker, Miles "Tee" Pollard III, Paige Pollard Hayes, and Steele Pollard; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Otis Miles Pollard Sr.; parents, Gustave Beauregard and Flora Holden Spaht; sisters, Velma Spaht, Alma Lee Spaht Saurage and Leona Spaht Huff; brothers, Carlos G. Spaht, James Froman Spaht and Homer Dale Spaht Sr. Lorene was a founding member of the Louisiana Historic Society of Baton Rouge, a deacon at First Presbyterian Church, active in Women in Ministry Circle 1 and participated in Circle 11, Chairman of the Women's Restoration Committee, historian, and a member of the Ed Grant Sunday School class. She was an active member of the Modern Reviewers Book Club. She was especially close to her many nieces and nephews, Carlos Spaht Jr., Mary Jane Spaht Gill, Paul Spaht, Katherine Huff O'Neil, Dan Huff, great-niece Lee Huff, Dr. Neil Spaht, David Spaht, Jeanette Spaht, Norman Saurage III, Roland Saurage, Cary Saurage, Linda Saurage, Dale Spaht, Susan Spaht, the late Kay Spaht Hutchison and Charles Spaht. Special thanks to the staff of St. James and her wonderful nurses, Cynthia Tasco, Eloise Battieste, Helen Domengeaux and Ruth Dangerfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation or to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
