

Frank “Woody” Pence, Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family. Woody dedicated more than 30 years of his life to educating and mentoring students at Central Middle School, where he served as a Physical Education teacher. He also shared his passion for athletics as a track coach for many of those years. In addition to his career in education, Woody proudly served his country for 29 years in the U.S. Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Throughout his life, Woody enjoyed staying active and pursuing his favorite pastimes. He was an avid runner and golfer and cherished the friendships and memories made through both sports. Woody is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen Gerstein Pence; his daughters, Tara Pence Dixon (Allen) and Jennifer Pence Parker (Scott); and his grandchildren, Victoria Dixon Beard (Matthew), Taylor Parker (Emily), and Nicole Dixon (Isabelle). He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Pence, Sr. and Dorothy Pluskat Pence, as well as many beloved family members. A private service for immediate family will be held at a later date. Woody will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his students, his country, and the countless lives he touched throughout his years of service and friendship.
