

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 A resident of Scott, LA and a native of Baton Rouge, he died at home Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the age of 89. He was a beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, step-grandfather, great grandfather and step-great grandfather. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell.. He never complained but fought pain all through his life. He was a retired pipe fitter at EXXON Refinery. He was a decorated Veteran of World War II and served with the 458th Bombardment Group. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for over 14 months. In 1990, he was inducted into the Louisiana Veterans Hall of Fame at the USS Kidd Museum. In 2004, he received the Prisoner of War Medal, the American Champaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. In 2009, Governor Jindal presented him the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal. From 1938 to 1941 he was a fourtime State boxing champ for Istrouma High School. He is featured in the book "Boxing: Louisiana's Forgotten Sport" by Don Landry. He is survived by a daughter Deborah Pellerin and husband Gill; sons Frank E. Scimeca and wife Bonnie and Jack Scimeca and wife Judy; sister Tina Moran; grandchildren Doren Scimeca Nixon, Daneen Scimeca Witty and husband Grant, Michelle Hanson, Ashley Scimeca Duncan and fiance' Jason Horne, and Brian Hanson and wife April; step-grandchildren Dr. Gilbert Pellerin, Jr., and wife Jeanne, and Mitchell Pellerin and wife Tiffany; great grandchildren Kristen and Austin McDonald, Brooklyn and Beau Witty, Tyler Duncan, Madison Horne, Londyn and Greyson Hanson; step-grandchildren Caroline, Anna, Jackson, Matthew and Hudson Pellerin; also many other relatives and friends. He is also survived by a very special lady that brought a smile to his face and put a twinkle in his eyes, Irene Sonnier. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; his parents Sam and Mary; 3 sisters Mary Swires, Frances Daquano and husband Joe and Joephine Scimeca; brothers Nick and wife Pansy and Joe and wife Sarah; also a beautiful beloved granddaughter Carmen Scimeca Rochester. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. on Saturday April 21, 2012 from 9am till service time at 2pm. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
