Gary P. Barbier

Gary P. Barbier, age 77, passed away September 13, 2026, at Baton Rouge General after a short illness. He is survived by sister, Betty, brothers, Norris and William. William, who lives in Plaquemine, would call Gary every day, just to check on Gary. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Mary Lydia LeBlance Barbier; sister, Jeanette; and brother, Alvin.

Gary grew up in the Port Allen area, moving to Baton Rouge in 2005. In 1993, Gary went to apply for a job at Sea Ties. One of ten applicants, Gary was selected for the job because he was the only one who wore an LSU shirt for the interview - it really does pay to be an LSU fan. What an employee: always on time, ready to work, and always ready to make the next bungee cord. Sea Ties was fortunate to have Gary as an employee. Retired in 2024. Whether you worked with Gary, attended LSU events with Gary, or just were lucky to spend time with Gary, you couldn’t help but love Gary. He was an LSU fan through and through - shirts, caps, posters, and even a bench, he had it all.

Gary and his buddy Frank Burns attended LSU football, basketball, and baseball games together.

They traveled to 20-30 away games with the LSU alumni travel group or friends. Thanks to all who helped Gary have a better life. For the complete story, please attend his funeral services in LSU attire. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA, from 10 am until memorial service at 11 am. A reception will follow at Greenoaks Reception Center following the service where you can continue to share a meal and tell stories about Gary.
