Gary Louis Hymel, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the age of 86. He was a native of White Castle, LA and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and Prairieville, LA. Gary was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He served four years in the US Army. He was a local Baton Rouge butcher for AG and had a lifelong love for LSU sports, particularly baseball. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Ware Hymel; children, Gary Hymel, Jr. (Dawn Vick), and Steven Hymel; grandchildren, Allison and Jacob Hymel; brother, Terry Hymel (Barbara); and a host of other loving family members and friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Willie, Sr. and Martha Landry Hymel; siblings, Alma, Neva, Bill, Dut, Gerald, Willie Jr., Thomas and Shirley. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 12pm until the time of funeral services at 2pm.
