On Tuesday, January 31st, Gay G. Jordan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away. She was eighty-six. Born to Myrtle and Reverend Gustav Gatzke, Gay was the sixth child and sibling to two brothers and four sisters. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School, where she met her husband, Larry. They were together for sixty-eight years.
Gay was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church for many years, where she grew her steadfast faith with her Maker. She played tennis at Bocage Racquet Club, participated in the Le Mousse Garden Club, and was a friend to any Boston Terrier she met.
But mostly, Gay will be remembered as the woman that embodies Southern Hospitality. She and Larry’s home knew no strangers, a testament to the warmth she brought to everyone she met. She often greeted her guests with a friendly, sing-songy, “YOO-HOO,” when she heard her never-locked front door open. No matter the guest, her enthusiasm and welcoming nature always remained inviting and loving.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Southside Garden’s staff and the hospice nurses, who gave such loving care to Gay. Thank you for your patience and kindness.
Gay is survived by her husband, Larry, four children and their spouses, Kathy Jordan, Cindy and Jeff Lee, Connie and Alan Jordan, and Jill and Clay Devlin. Granny and doc, as named by their grandchildren, enjoyed 14 grandchildren and now nine great-grandchildren. A visitation for Gay will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
