

Geoffrey “Jeff” Canfield, born in 1944 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He spent most of his professional life in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was known as a friendly and social presence who never met a stranger. Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Janie Canfield; his two sons, Matt Canfield (Heather) and Neil Canfield; his seven grandchildren, Madison Canfield, Christian Canfield, Harrison Canfield, Johnathan Rogers, Sutton Canfield, Mary Caroline Canfield, and Evelyn Canfield; and his sister, Pam Massey of North Carolina. Jeff proudly served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 and was honorably discharged. He later attended The University of Southern Mississippi, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1971 and his master’s degree in 1972. A dedicated alumnus, he was a lifetime member of The University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association and served as past president of the Baton Rouge chapter of the USM Alumni Association. Jeff retired from Liberty Mutual after 33 years of dedicated service. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809, on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Jeff’s Life at 12:00 p.m. Above all, Jeff cherished his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and University of Southern Mississippi sports. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
