

"George Edward Black, a native of Clarksdale, MS and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on August 23, 2016 at the age of 76. After a long courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis, George went to be with God. George was a true southern gentleman who was loved by his family and adored by all who knew him. He was a graduate of Ole Miss and Mississippi State. While matriculating to Ole Miss, he was a loyal member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. As an alumnus, he served as president of the House Committee. George had a passion for watching things grow, and dedicated his life to farming and then landscaping. His family was the center of his life, and he loved sharing dinners, beach time, and sporting events with them. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Hebert Black of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter, Sarah Farr Black of Alexandria, LA; step daughter, Missy and husband Miles Higgins of St. Francisville, LA; stepson, Steve Meaux, Jr and wife Shelley; grandchildren, Maggie, Landry, and Lilly Higgins of St. Francisville, LA; and brother, Lamar Black and wife Connie of Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Lamar Black and Rita Farr Black. Visitation will be Monday, August 29, 2016 at Grace Episcopal Church of West Feliciana Parish from 1:00 p.m. until a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Fr. Roman Roldan. Donations can be made to LSU Rural Life Museum and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family would like to thank Darlene Johnson and Shelley Wintz with St. Joseph's Hospice of Baton Rouge.
