The world lost a truly gentle soul when George Elias Farris Jr. passed from this life on May 3, 2025, at the age of 89. George was married to the love of his life, Julia Carolyn Waits, for 52 years. He was a devout Catholic and a true family man. George served in the army in Korea before coming home to Baton Rouge to teach at Redemptorist Catholic High School. He then went on to work for the East Baton Rouge City Parish as a vocational counselor for youth. He is preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Zula Farris; one brother, Anthony E. “Tinker” Farris (Rita); and three sisters, Sr. Mary Ann Farris CSJ, Margaret Farris Bayhi (Buck), and Eloise Farris Persac (Bobby). He is survived by his wife, Julia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 10:30 until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30, celebrated by her nephew, the Rev. Jeffery Bayhi. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Metanoia Manor.
