George John Grazioso, born in Queens, NY on November 11, 1950, passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on November 22, 2020, of COVID-19 and complications from underlying liver issues. He received a degree in film from Binghamton University in 1972 and a law degree from LSU in 1980. He was employed for over 20 years with the Louisiana Division of Administration first as Deputy General Counsel and then as Assistant Director of the Purchasing Division. George is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Mary Ellen “Mimi” Hunley; his mother, Louise Hetzler Grazioso; his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Barry Simon; niece, Jessica Simon Conway and her husband Scott; nephews, Jon, Stephen, and Michael Simon; and his great nephew, Joshua Simon Conway all of Coram, NY. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Henry Grazioso; his maternal grandparents, Charlotte and John Hetzler; his paternal grandparents, Madeline Grazioso Hickey and George Grazioso as well as his step-grandfather, James Hickey. George was a family man to three families: his Long Island family, his wife Mimi and as master and caretaker of his canine family of a dozen rescue dogs. He lived his life with a steady balance of serious work and serious play. He was well-traveled as well as a connoisseur, an epicurean, and a gourmet. He was a giver and not a taker. He was generous to a fault. He was solid, sincere and dependable. His friends and family knew they could count on him every time. He was comfortable in his own skin and in his own comfortable clothes with his orange crocks. His favorite color. As Mimi liked to say “He had a New York state of mind complete with a Southern soul”. The best of both worlds. He lives on in all of us and always will. God bless us everyone, especially George Grazioso and his three families. A memorial get-together will be held in the spring.
