

A resident of Baton Rouge, he died at his home on Monday, March 11, 2013. He was 83 years old. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, March 15, beginning at noon until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m., celebrated by the Rev. Mike Collins. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815. He is survived by two daughters, Kelly McCarthy Wheeler and Robin McCarthy Huet; a son, John D. McCarthy; a brother, Bob McCarthy; three grandchildren, Stephen McCarthy, Missy Wheeler and Katie Wheeler; and his faithful dog, Chien. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen "Sandy" McCarthy; parents, Edmund McCarthy and Madeline Ward McCarthy; sister, Marilyn Cronin; and grandson, Sam McCarthy. Pallbearers will be David Huet, Mike Wheeler, Martin Johnson, Joe Cobb, John Ratcliff and Bob Huet. He was a former member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He honorably served in the United States Air Force and remained an avid boater until his death. His faith and love of life, friends and family have sustained him through the years.
