George William Schaffer, Jr., age 71, born July 27, 1946 has struggled fiercely with his health this past year. Although he lost this fight against cancer, he won the battle to live in his heavenly home; On December 1, 2017, surrounded by his wife, Rhonda, Daughter Jamie, and “son” Gerald . George was a retired insulator worker for Local 53 and currently self-employed. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Evening Lions Club and served as Governor of District 8N 2008-2009. He enjoyed serving others and was diligent in his duties to help others. The last year of his life was spent blissfully spending time with his newest grandson, Beau Louis Causey. They had many “play dates” and Beau was his greatest joy during his illness. Left to mourn are his wife, Rhonda S. Baker; daughter, Jamie Davis (Mickey Causey and son, Beau Louis) and Robin Brantley; sons, Cody Schaffer, Scott Schaffer, and “adopted son” Gerald Dunn; and 8 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sherri Schaffer; father, George Schaffer, Sr.; and mother, Florence Schaffer. Many thanks go to Dr. Brent Campanella for being George’s personal care physician. The family would like to also give a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Shaun Accardo and the amazing team he created to fight for George until the very end. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 3pm until 9pm.
