George Edward Tricou, Jr.

George was born on December 18, 1924, in New Orleans, LA. In 1936, the family moved to Greenville, MS. One year later, they moved to Hattiesburg, MS. George attended Hattiesburg High School where he graduated in 1943. George joined the US Navy that summer. He attended Naval Air School as a machinist mate and was transferred to Naval Squadron VP 63 stationed in North Africa during WWII. After the war was over in Europe, George returned to the states and was later honorably discharged. He joined his family in Baton Rouge. George enrolled in LSU where he studied law. After three semesters in law school, George and his father bought 688 Parts Service in 1951. Upon his father’s death in 1972, George became CEO. In 1978, he opened Service Parts Warehouse, a distribution center to supply jobbers and company stores. With the help and dedication of his son, Mark Tricou, and good loyal employees, the company grew. In 1994, the companies and all 23 branch stores were sold to CarQuest Auto Parts of Raleigh, NC. George was an avid golfer and fisherman who loved LSU sports and spending time with his family. George is preceded in death by his father and mother, George E. Tricou, Sr. and Marguerite L. Tricou; sister, Melba B. Scully; daughter-in-law, Andrea Tricou; and grandson, Bryan Tricou. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sue H. Tricou; son, Mark C. Tricou and wife, Dawn; daughter, Lori Zachary and husband, John; granddaughters, Hannah Zachary Kirsch and husband, James, Olivia Zachary, Catherine Tricou Shelfer and husband, Brian; grandson, Chris Tricou; great-grandchildren, Brooks and Bennett Shelfer, Brenna Tricou, and Diana Kirsch; step-grandson, Charlie Oliver; step-great-grandchildren, Charlee and Hollis Oliver; and a host of extended family member and friends. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 12pm until the time of memorial services at 2pm.
