

George Anthony Von Bodungen, Ph.D., devoted father, husband and retired Chemist, died on July 20, 2026 of cancer at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge at the age of 85. Born in New Orleans and a resident of Baton Rouge. A graduate of St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Loyola University along with a PhD in Chemistry from Tulane University. George was a dedicated altar server, lector, Arimathean, and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
George was preceded in death by his father Captain Fredrick A. M. Von Bodungen, his mother Emily Kingsley Bergeron Von Bodungen, three brothers Fredrick R., Gustave A., and Raymond C Von Bodungen. He is survived by his wife, Adrienne Boh Von Bodungen; two daughters, Tammy Von Bodungen Peters (Steve); Heidi Von Bodungen; and son Charles Von Bodungen and his brother Joseph P. Von Bodungen, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
George began his career with Copolymer in 1966 as a Senior Chemist at the Baton Rouge SBR Plant. He was promoted to various positions of technical leadership at both Addis and Baton Rouge plants and was a major contributor to the invention and production of numerous patented SBR and EPDM applications, retiring in 2000. George also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Copolymer Retirees Trust from 2006 until 2025.
Friends of the family and former employees of DSM Copolymer are invited to attend visitation on Thursday July 23, 2026 from 1 pm until 3 pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, located at 445 Marquette Avenue in Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806. Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna Louisiana 70056 located at 1225 Whitney Avenue at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of the Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Baton Rouge General and Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic for their compassionate care.
