Jacoby Family -

I just returned from the Homestead High Class of 1966 where many of us learned of Glen's passing. I knew Glenn from junior high, and our paths crossed periodically when our parents both lived at Lake Wildwood in California.

Glenn was a great man - a person you would consider a life-long friend even with infrequent contact. Our sympathy to his family - he will be missed and remembered!

Hi Gail and Children,

I knew Glenn way back in CU Engineering School, where we attended classes together.  I was surprised when I noticed his name in the "in memoriam" section of the latest alumni brochure.  It brought back good memories of a positive and fun guy to be around.  Although I would not say we were good friends, his face immediately came to mind when I saw his name.  I wish you blessings as you deal with Glen's loss too soon to cancer, and please tell Grandma and Grandpa Jacoby thanks for sending their son to CU. - Alan Allan

I am so sorry to hear about Glen's passing.  He was a wonderful mentor and friend. He always lightened my spirit and helped me to see the humor in life.  Throughout the years he always emphasized to me the importance of living life to the fullest.  That is exactly what Glen portrayed and I will miss him deeply.

I have known Glen since the TERA days, in the 80's. He was a well liked and respected colleague by all. I will be contacting TERA folks to let them know. He was my good friend, and I learned so much from him, especially as a mentor in the early days of my career. He has given us all many gifts, that we carry on in our hearts and memories forever. Gail, Dana and Marcus,

To Dana and Marcus I say that your dad was a wonderful man. We got together often, enjoyed dinners, drinks, good times and trips over the years of our friendship.  Your names always seemed to be in the conversation....he was very proud of both of you and the successful young people you have grown to become. It was nice to finally meet both of you and you ARE everything that Glen spoke of!  

Gail, I know you will miss your "soul mate" as you and Glen were best friends as well.   The great times and friendship that all of us have shared over the years will never be forgotten and we will continue to remember Glen in future gatherings of "the group" for a long time to come.  He will be missed by all of us but never forgotten.  

Gail, you know that if there is anything that you need from Lee or I that it is only a phone call away.

Know that every time Glen & I met for lunch or business meetings, he always regaled me with your successful careers & adventures.  He was very proud of both of you.  I miss him tremendously.  I valued his confidence and wisdom.

I've been so privileged and blessed to consider myself a friend of Glen's for going on 20 years now. We must have met on a run or a bike ride, or maybe at a triathlon but neither of us could remember exactly when that was. It was a friendship that was so natural and comfortable it seemed to have no beginning or end; it was something that just always was, and I know always will be.
 I think we hit it off to the degree we did because we were such polar opposites. Glen's self assured, outgoing personality was in direct contrast to my reserved, introverted ways. He sort of became the big brother I never had, mentoring me not just in our triathlon training; he was the guy I could aways count on for clear and reasoned counsel towards my career and personal life. 
Those long bike rides allowed quite a lot of time for conversation, and we filled the miles talking about football, our careers, the stock market, the next race we were training for, and, of course, our families. Of those, the subject Glen spoke the most of, and the most passionately was his kids. The pride he had for Marcus and Dana was so tangible in his voice, and in the stories he would tell me of their scholastic and athletic achievements as they grew into young adults. And as they made their way into the business world he was equally proud to talk about their careers, their loves and the amazing success they had achieved so early in life. I know Glen is so very proud of Marcus and Dana and at peace in the knowledge that they will live happy, secure lives. He loves you both so much.
 With a sparkle in his eye Glen would always have a story to tell of he and Gail's latest adventure, both those being planned, and those already enjoyed.  His zest for life, for travel and exploring was matched, and probably exceeded by Gail's. He loved that, and so much more about Gail. There was always some cool place they were soon to be headed; Albuquerque for the baloon festival, Key West, or just to Pensacola to have a Bushwacker or three. They shared the world together, their companionship making the experiences all the more special. Glen was a lucky man to have found his soulmate in Gail, and he knew it. You could hear it in the way he spoke of her.
 I remember one of the first triathlons Glen and I raced together, This was the Sports Spectrum Triathlon in Shreveport, a race that we traveled to many times after that first time. This was in th early 90's, a hot August morning in the piney hills of north Louisiana. Glen had finished the half mile swim at least 5 minutes ahead of me, transitioned into his bike gear and headed out on the bike course. I managed to drag myself out of the water and head out on my bike, and after about 3 or 4 miles I saw what looked like Glen on the side of the road, furiously changing a flat tire. Sure enough, it was him. I rode up and asked if he was OK, but he waved me on, saying he would be back in the race in just a minute or two. Sure enough, it wasn't long before he passed me back, racing like a madman, headed up the road and out of sight. Unfortunately, whatever was causing the problem with his tire raised it ugly again because within a mile or two I came up on him again, fixing another flat. He wasn't in as nearly as good a mood this time around. He was cussing the tire company, the race director, and I think maybe the Louisiana Dept of Highways for good measure. I knew better than to ask, so I just put my head down and focused on going as fast as I could. I was determined to beat him regardless of the circumstances, and my chances were looking pretty good.
 I finished the bike course, heading out on the 3 mile out-and-back run to the finish. This is the toughest part of any triathlon, the legs just not wanting to cooperate after the combined efforts of the swim and bike. The traffic cone that marked the half-way turn around was just ahead, and as I ran around it I looked up the road, only to see Glen running hard, looking directly back at me with a wry grin. Somehow he had gotten back on his bike, made up the lost time and was closing fast.
 I would beat Glen in other races over the years, but not this one.
 He taught me something that day that speaks to perservering when things are going all wrong, to giving 100% even when it seems our goals have been put out of reach. I would see that fiery spirit in Glen many more times and it never failed to inspire me, but never more so than the last difficult months he faced so courageously. His strength, his graciousness, his sheer will to beat the impossible odds that faced him set an example for me and maybe for us all as we travel our own journey on this earth. 
 I'll miss you, Glen, so much. I know we'll meet again, but until then I hope the wind is at your back, the roads are smooth, and the sun never sets until you are safely home.

My sympathies to Glen's loved ones during this time of grief.  I had the honor of working with him and being his friend since 1999.  Glen loved life, loved his people, and was a good friend.  He will be missed.

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE JACOBY FAMILY DURING THIS DIFFICULT AND TRYING TIME. I WILL FOREVER BE INDEBTED TO GLEN, MARIAN, DANA AND MARCUS FOR OPENING UP THERE HOME TO ME THROUGHOUT HIGH SCHOOL. GLEN WAS A FINE MAN WHO RAISED A FINE FAMILY. HE WILL FOREVER BE REMEMBERED!

Just heard about Glen's passing - all my love and prayers to Dana and Marcus.

Our deepest sympathies to the Jacoby family on the loss of a friend and colleague.  All of us at Chevron will miss him.  He contributed so much to our work, both professionally and personally.  I consider it an honor to have worked with him for many years.  I am personally saddened by his passing.
