
Gordon Wilkins Morris, Sr., age 93, died in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Born February 2, 1921, in Chatam, Louisiana, to Robert Eli Morris and Loura Lee Kennedy Morris, Gordon attended LSU and graduated from Business School. Gordon proudly served in the Navy during World War II from July 1942 until September 1945 aboard the SS Frederick Lykes and the SS E. Kirby Smith, attaining the rank of Gunner's Mate. On June 27, 1954, Gordon married Anne Marie Mortellero. Gordon lived in Baton Rouge and began working as an accountant for Delta Southern Co. Inc. where he retired as Vice President of Finance in 1986. Gordon was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, the Masons, St. James Lodge #47, the Zachary Taylor Post of the VFW #3784, and the Navy Club of the USS Kidd - Ship #661. Survivors include his wife Anne Morris of Baton Rouge, son Robert Morris (Jeanne) of Pride, LA, daughter Nancy Morris of Jacksonville Beach, FL, daughter Susan Cosper (Spencer) of McLean, VA and son Gordon Morris, Jr. (Laura) of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Michael Nowakowski (Jennifer), Randy Morris (Angela) , Brian Nowakowski, Elaine Nowakowski, Katherine Cosper, Spencer W. Cosper, John Cosper; and great grandchildren Christian Morris, Daisy Morris and Reid Nowakowski. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Robert Eli Morris and Loura Lee Kennedy Morris and his brother Robert Stanley Morris. Visitation will be at St. John's United Methodist Church, Monday, December 29, 2014, starting at 9:30 am until services at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
