

Grace Godat Moore Scoggin of Baton Rouge died on Sunday, May 28th, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, at First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10am, with the service to follow at 11am in the chapel. Grace lived up to her beautiful name; she was both graceful and gracious. She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all. Grace was born on July 6, 1930, in Atlanta to Helen Powe Godat and Edward Mitchel Godat, both native New Orleanians. She grew up in Memphis and Crossett, AR, where she graduated from high school in 1948. At the University of Arkansas, Grace was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She graduated Cum Laude in 1952, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Grace later earned a Masters degree in Library Science from LSU and spent her 28-year career at the Louisiana State Library. She served as President of the Louisiana Library Association in 1993-94. A Baton Rouge resident since 1959, Grace was deeply involved in the community. She served as President of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association, President of the Woman's Club, and Treasurer of the Jones Foundation. Grace was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, serving as a Deacon and as Secretary of the First Presbyterian Church Foundation. Grace was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Order of Saint Lazarus, and the English Speaking Union. In 1952, Grace married John I. Moore, her college sweetheart. They moved to Baton Rouge in 1959 when John joined the law firm of Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips. John predeceased her in 1997 after 45 years of marriage. In 2012, she wed Joe Scoggin, and they enjoyed more than ten years of married life together. Grace is survived by three children: John Ashley Moore and wife Jan of Baton Rouge; Frances Moore Duhe' and husband A.J. of Weston, FL; and Carolyn Moore Wood and husband Charles of Wellesley, MA. Her oldest son, Edward Moore, predeceased her. Grace is also survived by seven grandchildren: Lindsay Moore Hopkins and husband Brent; Jonathan Moore and wife Catherine; Adam Duhe' and wife Kathlene; John Duhe' and fiancee' Katelyn Bliss; Elizabeth Duhe' Pond and husband Ashton; Jack Wood; Charlotte Wood; and seven great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Helen Kline; a sister-in-law, Cuqui Moore; a stepdaughter, Jeannene Kogler and husband Rick; a niece and four nephews.
