Our beloved mother, Hazel Amedee Mascarella, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026. She was born on February 15, 1930, in Vacherie, LA and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. Hazel devoted her life to her family and her faith raising 7 children with love and patience. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting for her family and friends. She was a member of the church rosary and crochet ministries where she made great friends both with her fellow members and the people they helped.
She is survived by her children Chuck, Michael (Julie), Denise Vincent (Rhea), Monica Michael (Mark), Tracy Denison (Danny), and Dawn Broussard (Mark); sisters Mildred Mumphrey and Marion Reine; 18 grandchildren, and over 30 great grandchildren; and only godchild Marty Mumphrey. Preceded in death by her husband Vincent Mascarella, parents Elvina (Brignac) and Thomas Amedee, sisters Lillian Mumphrey, Patsy Treuil, Lucille Amedee, and Sylvia Amedee, daughter Gerry Ewing, and great granddaughter Alyssa Neubauer. Pallbearers are Bryant Denison, Kyle Denison, Clayton Haydel, John Russell Haydel, John Paul Michael, Jeremy Mascarella, Jacob Sevin, Patrick Vincent, and honorary pallbearer Joseph Broussard.
Services will be Thursday, February 5 at St. George Catholic Church. Public visitation at 9:30AM until Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM, celebrated by her grandson, Fr. Rusty Vincent.
