
Helen Claire Ferguson Brock, lovingly known as "Lady," and a native of Columbus, Miss., died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at her residence in Baton Rouge. She was 91, born Jan. 18, 1920. She was the daughter of the late James Leon Ferguson and Jessie Leona McReynolds, who were of Columbus. Mrs. Brock graduated as valedictorian from Mississippi University for Women (The "W"), receiving a degree in business with a minor in music. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years of marriage, Walter H. Brock. She and Walter married Feb. 3, 1942, and after Walter served on active duty during World War II for 4 years, settled in Baton Rouge in 1946. She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church, having served as the assistant organist for 14 years and also on the Administrative Board, president of United Methodist Women, Bell Choir, Lowry Circle member, teaching Sunday school and serving on many other boards and committees. She served beyond the local church level in UMW as district president, conference vice president, as well as on the Louisiana United Methodist level as delegate to annual conferences and other various state boards and committees. She was recently honored by having a new UMW Circle named in her honor, the Helen Brock Circle. She was a board member of the MacDonell United Methodist Children's Services in Houma. She was a member and past president of PEO Chapter AA. Mrs. Brock's favorite activities were traveling with Walter, playing piano and organ, making a loving home for her children and enjoying her grandchildren, particularly on the "Mystery Trips" that she and Walter took them on. Visitation will be Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. until religious service at noon at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chris Andrews officiating. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Claire McNabb and husband Bob; son, Alan Ferguson Brock and wife Colleen; four grandchildren, Brian McNabb, Christopher Brock and wife Sirena, Jennifer Brock and Whitney Claire McNabb. Pallbearers will be Brian McNabb, Christopher Brock, Frank Smith, Hal Smith, Bobby Brock and Bill Coffey. Honorary pallbearers are the members of United Methodist Women. The family wishes to thank her many caregivers, as well as Hospice of Baton Rouge who blessed all of our lives with compassion and love.
