
Helen Nosacka Jung, a homemaker, died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, of natural causes at home in Baton Rouge. She was 96. Mrs. Jung had been a lifelong resident of New Orleans until she had to move to Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina. She was the daughter of the late Pauline Grunik and Joseph Nosacka, and sister of the late Paul Nosacka. She was an active member of AARP 3442, St. Margaret Daughters' Home, St. Maurice Church, St. Maurice Parish Council, Arabi Methodist Church, St. Bernard Methodist Church, Holy Cross Neighborhood Association, Good Time Singers of the Home of Rehabilitation, Keenagers of First Methodist Church, the Over-The-Hill Band, the XYZ Club of the First Baptist Church, Arabi, and, most recently, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Baton Rouge. She served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Maurice Church and St. Margaret Daughters' Home. In July 1986, Mrs. Jung received the St. Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. In 1989, she received the Volunteer's Spiritual Award for her work at St. Margaret Daughters' Home. She was well-known for her singing and entertaining at many nursing homes. She was married to Albert J. Jung for almost 70 years until his death in November 2006. Her firstborn son, the Rev. Mr. Albert J. Jung, S.J., died in January 1964. Survivors include her children, Ronald J. Jung and his wife, Sandra, Dr. Michael E. Jung and his wife, Alice, and Mary Ann Jung Giardina and her husband, David; four grandchildren, Shelley Jung Moore and her husband, David, Sean D. Jung, Dr. Todd D. Giardina and his wife, Robin, and Scott Giardina and his wife, Mel; and two great-grandchildren, Thérèse Rose Moore and Janie Brooke Giardina. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Jan. 5, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 6425 W. Metairie Ave., Metairie, on Thursday, Jan. 6, with visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m., celebrated by Monsignor Bob Massett. Entombment will follow in St. Roch Cemetery 1, 1725 St. Roch Ave., New Orleans.
