A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Opelousas, Helen Sikes Lavigne, 94, was born Nov. 15, 1915, and died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. She was a member of the West Baton Rouge Presbyterian Church in Port Allen. She will be remembered as an independent lady who loved cooking and working with her flowers. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. until religious services in the chapel at 11 a.m. Survivors include a niece, Carolyn Carrow Murtagh and husband Dr. James Murtagh; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Louis Lavigne Sr.; parents, Joseph J. Sikes and Margaret Sweeney Sikes; two brothers, Eugene E. Sikes and Albert A. Sikes; and a sister, Alma A. Sikes Carrow.
