
Helen Crawford Nelson passed away Monday March 5, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was 84. She was born December 16, 1927 in Kentwood, LA to Talmadge Black Crawford and Florence Edith Addison. Her family ultimately moved to Baton Rouge, where she graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1945. She was married to the love of her life, Robert E. Nelson Jr. in 1949, and was employed by the L.S.U. Law Library as the government documents librarian for over 30 years. While there she was awarded the L.S.U. Foundation Outstanding Service Award. Visitation will be Thursday March 8, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday March 9, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until religious services at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. with her nephews Leland Crawford, Jr. as pastor and Robert Crawford with music. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Nelson, Jr. and is survived by her children, Karen S. Nelson of Dallas, R. Mark Nelson and wife Bernice of Central, David K. Nelson and wife Desiree, of Baton Rouge, five grandchildren; Brian Nelson and wife Kayla, Ashley Nelson, David Nelson, Jr. and wife Brooke, Danny Nelson and wife Sarah, and McKenzie Nelson, three great granddaughters; Hayleigh, Bonnie Claire and Taylor, and one soon to be born, great grandson, Owen Crawford Nelson. Pallbearers will be Brian Nelson, David Nelson, Jr. Danny Nelson, Ashley Nelson, McKenzie Nelson, and Joseph Winsey.
