"Well done my good and faithful servant." Herman R. Chandler, 84, was born Dec. 6, 1925, and passed away Friday, May 7, 2010. He had been a lifetime resident of Baton Rouge and worked 35 years at Exxon. He served during World War II in the U.S. and as an ordained deacon, a Boy Scout leader, Little League baseball coach, Sunday school teacher and director, marshal at LSU sports and delivered Meals on Wheels. He loved being involved with the church's Banquet Table food ministry, where he served food boxes, prayed for needs, and most importantly, helped lead others to Jesus Christ. As a father, he was steadfast and true and set an example of what a father should be. Each child or grandchild thought they were his "favorite" because he treated each one like they were. Whatever we did he did. He could entertain children by making up stories and sing songs like "My sweet potato poota toota pie," and "Preacher went a hunting." He was greeted in heaven by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Chandler; wife, Ann Chandler; and brother, Robert H. Chandler Sr. Those left behind include a sister-in-law, Elaine K. Chandler; daughters, Mollie C. Burch, and Elaine and husband Larry Robillard; sons, H.R. "Bud" and wife Connie Chandler, and Brian and wife Mary Beth Chandler; grandkids, Wayne Robillard, Curtis and wife Katie Robillard, Chris Murphey, Stacy Murphey Badeaux, Ashley Murphey Jenkins, Jessica Burch, Seth and wife Deborah Chandler, Hope Chandler, Ellen C. and husband Chase Pino, Jesse Chandler, Tiffany C. and husband Shane Mouton, and Casey Chandler; and 16 great-grandchildren with two more on the way. Pallbearers will be Wayne and Curtis Robillard, Chris Murphey, Seth and Jesse Chandler, and Casey Chandler. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Chandler, Jim Chandler, David Chandler and Gary Carpenter. Special thanks to Dr. Patrick Stagg, Aileen Brassard and the staff of Medical Oncology, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center fifth floor tower, and outpatient infusion, and Patricia Shorts of Stanacola Home Health and Hospice Associates. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, May 8, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Sunday from 3 p.m. until homegoing celebration at 6 p.m., conducted by Steve Johnson, Royal Williams and Dan Dix. Internment in Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Immanuel Baptist Church "in memory of Pops." To God be the glory.
