A true Southern jewel, Ida was joyful, gracious, and full of life. She never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone she encountered feel welcome. Whether surrounded by family, longtime friends, or someone she had just met, Ida brought warmth and happiness to the room. Her genuine love of people was one of the many qualities that made her so special.

She was a proud grandmother to Olivia Jackson; Paolo Fonda (Heather); Mallory Thom; and Laura Laiche. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Parker and LuLu Jackson and Josephine and Lucio Fonda, who brought her tremendous joy.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Frank “Duck” Drago, Corlie Smith, Mike Drago, Barbara Vick, Roma Drago, Shelia Lacour, and Patricia Pate. A graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy, Class of 1946, Ida continued her education at Spencer Business College.
Throughout her life, Ida embraced every opportunity to enjoy the company of others. She participated in garden club, dance club, supper club groups, and a bowling league. She loved playing cards, was an avid crossword puzzle solver, and was a devoted LSU fan. More than any particular activity, however, Ida loved being with people. Her enthusiasm for life, easy laughter, and welcoming spirit created friendships wherever she went.
Ida’s family will remember her not simply for the remarkable number of years she was given, but for the way she filled those years—with joy, family, friendship, and an unmistakable zest for life. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and hospitality and countless memories shared with the many people fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lake Sherwood Village for providing Mom with a loving and caring home, and to CC for the personal care she provided to our mother.
