Ida Chenevert McCarty

"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God." John 14:1. A resident of Baton Rouge, Ida Chenevert McCarty died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at 11:45 a.m. She was 100 and a native of New Roads. "Deedie," as she was affectionately known, left this world peacefully to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving and devoted daughters and family. She is survived by three daughters, Betty McCarty Voss, Carolyn McCarty DePaula and her husband, Dr. Frank J. DePaula, and Connie McCarty Cangelosi; beloved grandchildren, Richmond C. "Rick" Davis III, John Drew Davis and his wife, Lisa, Dawn DePaula Knuckles and her husband, Mike, Stephen Dennis DePaula and his wife, Karen, Dina DePaula Martinez, Stacy Cangelosi Gruenwald and her husband, Dr. Charles Gruenwald, Kristine Cangelosi, and M. Troy Cangelosi and his wife, Lou; and 12 great-grandchildren, Stuart Walter Davis, Patrick Richard Davis, Lane Thomas Davis, Alyssa Danielle Davis, Daniel Scott DePaula, Matthew James DePaula, Keith Michael DePaula, Andrew Thomas Knuckles, Bradley James Knuckles, Emily Ann Martinez, Amie Marie Martinez and Joseph Troy Cangelosi. She is also survived by a sister, Genevieve "Johnnie" Chenevert; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter Dennis McCarty; parents, Emile and Lezima Bueche Chenevert; five sisters, Amelia Monceret, Isabel Major, Thelma LeBlanc, Bernice Falconer and Laura Dabadie; and two brothers, J.C. "Slim" Chenevert and Laurence Chenevert. Visitation at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2250 Main St., on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Paul A. McDuffie, celebrant. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, son-in-law and Dr. Charles Gruenwald. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the caring staff at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice and Old Jefferson Community Care Center.
