
Irma Mae Loupe Smith, a native of Opelousas and reared in New Roads, and a resident of Baton Rouge, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at The Haven at Windermere. She was 85. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and a former secretary for LSU. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul McDuffie, celebrant. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park, under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. Preceded in death by her parents, Numa E. and Mae Mix Loupe. Survivors include her husband, Justin Smith Sr.; two daughters, Janet S. Rapp and husband Steve, of Dallas, Sylvia S. Gerace, of Baton Rouge; two sons, Justin W. Smith Jr. and wife Barbara, of Lake Charles, and Glenn G. Smith and wife Deborah, of Baton Rouge; her twin brother, Numa L. Loupe, of New Roads; nine grandchildren, Karen Smith, Kelly Smith, Glenn G. Smith, Jr. Amy Wilson, Claire Smith, Sarah Smith, Adam Gerace, Bryan Gerace, Stephen Gerace. Pallbearers will be Glenn G. Smith, Jr., Adam J. Gerace, Bryan R. Gerace, Stephen J. Gerace, Joe G. May, and Hiram A. "Gus" May, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Congregation of St. Joseph Mission Advancement Office, 4664 Jamestowne Ave., Suite 125, Baton Rouge, LA 70808 or a charity of the donors choice. The family would like to thank her caretakers at The Haven during her stay, as well as Penny with St. Joseph Hospice.
