Jack Russell Kemp, longtime resident of Baton Rouge and native of Independence, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015 at the age of 86. After graduating from LSU, where he was in the ROTC, Jack served in the Air Force at the end of the Korean War. He worked 30 years at Davis Wholesale Drug Company where he helped distribute the Salk Polio vaccine. He loved his family dearly and was so proud of his grandchildren. Jack will be forever remembered for his gourmet cooking, his love of entertaining, the stories and terrible jokes he told, and for being a connoisseur of puns. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Athalee Kemp, and son, James “Jim” Kemp. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margie Kemp; son, Stephen Paul Kemp and his wife Prudence; daughters, Kathi Lee Kemp, and Sherry Flynn and her husband Brian; grandchildren, Marco Tejeda-Kemp, Richard Kemp, and Elizabeth Collier; sister, Betty Kemp Bergeron; nephews, Scott and Matt Bergeron; and 2 furry kids, Odie and Lacey. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5th from 8:00 am until the Funeral Service at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Richard Kemp, Marco Tejeda-Kemp, Stephen Kemp, Brian Flynn, Pete Butler, and Ken Johnson.
