James C. “Chuck” Brashier (Poppa) passed away on September 1, 2021 at the Baton Rouge General Hospice Butterfly Wing with his loving wife Ilene by his side. He was born on February 23, 1949 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and grew up in Baker, Louisiana where he graduated from Baker High School in 1967 and attended Louisiana State University. He began his career at Exxon soon after he and Ilene were married. He retired from Exxon after 41 years of service. Chuck and Ilene for many years enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada. He loved backpacking, camping and enjoyed teaching his sons to fly fish. In later years, after his sons were married, he enjoyed playing golf with his former Exxon friends. He was also an avid photographer and enjoyed taking pictures of scenery and wildflowers as they traveled the country. His greatest joy in taking pictures was taking pictures of his five grandchildren. He also enjoyed decorating cookies with grandchildren Aiden and Lily. Chuck and Ilene were avid LSU fans and enjoyed attending LSU football and softball games to cheer on his beloved Tigers. He always enjoyed cooking for family and friends at tailgating parties held each game in the fall for LSU football season. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ilene Martin Brashier; sons, Chad and wife Libby Brashier of Ringgold, Georgia, and Heath and wife Jill Brashier of Tega Cay, South Carolina; granddaughters, Maddie, Liz and Lily Brashier; grandsons, Knox and Aiden Brashier; sister, Cynthia Holiday and brother-in-law Phillip Kling; nieces, Cricket Gordon, Amanda Roubique and Camey Hileman; nephew, Trent Holiday; along with numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Dorothy Beddingfield Brashier; sister, Emily Brashier Kling; niece, Jenny R. Kling; maternal grandparents, Charles M. and Clarice Pagen Beddingfield; and paternal grandparents, Wiley James & Emily Carney Brashier. Family and friends are invited for visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, September 6 from 9:00 a.m. until a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Knox Brashier, Trent Holiday, Jade St. Pierre, Doug Hileman, John Cherry and David East. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Kling, Charlie Speights, Randy Martin, Johnny Zachary and Warren Brou. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck’s name to your favorite charity.
