James Arthur Frens, affectionately known by all as Art, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the age of 75. Art was born on January 3, 1943 and grew up in Denver, CO; however, was a long-term resident of Baton Rouge, LA. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, he enlisted in the Air Force and was the last commanding officer of the Air Force Radar Station in Houma, LA. Art went on to have a successful career in the chemical industry and retired from Albemarle Corporation in 2004. Faith was an important part of Art’s life. He was a charter member and elder at Faith Presbyterian Church. Upon retirement, he continued his passion for fishing, watching LSU sporting events, tending to his vegetable garden, and spending time with friends and family. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. The world was a better place because of him. He is preceded in death by his father, James Leslie Frens, his mother, Katherine Alida Ockers Frens, and his oldest son, James Allen Frens. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Chyrel Courtney Frens, his daughter-in-law Stacey Frens, son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Suzanne Frens, son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Danah Frens, sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Jerry Schippers, sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Pete Smit, sister and brother-in-law, Lu and Ron Cook, sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Jim Wall, sister Shari Koops, four grandchildren, Katherine, Abigail, Emma, and Andrew, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 20, from 12:00-2:00pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, November 20, at 2:00. Immediately following the funeral service, there will be a reception held at Greenoaks Funeral Home.
