James G. "Jug" Odom, a resident of Denham Springs, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. He was 88 and a native of Baton Rouge. Mr. Odom was retired from the wholesale grocery business and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. until funeral service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Fleming and the Rev. Freddie Henderson. Graveside service at Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood, on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Survived by his son, Jim Odom. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Day Odom; parents, James and Alice Odom; and sister, Marguerite Andrews. Mr. Odom was an accomplished athlete who was inducted into the Baton Rouge High School Hall of Fame and the Southeastern Louisiana University Hall of Fame. He was also named an All-American football player at Southeastern Louisiana and was named to the All-Time Baton Rouge High School Team by Baton Rouge sports writers in 1972. Mr. Odom was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
