James D. Harriott

Jim was a good, down-to-earth man who lived life simply, treated people right, and never missed a chance to help somebody out. He lived life on his own terms and was a true rolling stone right up to the end.

Jim was happiest along the shores of Grand Isle, Louisiana, with a fishing pole in hand and a breeze off the water. He always had a legendary fishing story ready to share. Jim also had a natural softness for animals, especially his faithful dog, Missy, and his cat, Garfield, whose presence and companionship he treasured above all else.

Jim attended Providence Baptist Church, where he discovered a deep love for Jesus and found immense strength and comfort in his church family. He frequently called on them for prayer, drew peace from their fellowship, and took great joy in listening to the sermons preached by his nephew, Pastor Philip Guay. His family takes great comfort in knowing that Jim is now at rest in the arms of the Lord.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to two very special women in Jim’s life, Jeanie and Melissa. Their loving care meant the world to him, and he wouldn’t want his fur babies with anyone else.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lester James Harriott and Grace Greene Harriott. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Miller and her husband, Luther, of Ragley, Louisiana, and Cathy Guay and her husband, Phil, of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana. He is also survived by his nephew, Pastor Philip Guay (Krist) of Baker, Louisiana, and their children, Trenton and Jordan; and his niece, Ashley Franklin (Chris) of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and their children, Jolie, Jessie, Josh, Alyssa, Caleb, Emma, and Jude. He also leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews who knew him simply as “Uncle Jim”.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 3, 2026, at Providence Baptist Church, 10440 Hooper Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70818, officiated by Pastor Philip Guay, beginning at 2 pm.
