

A memorial service for James Granger Harriss, III, of Baton Rouge, LA will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rev. John Mabry will officiate. Visitation is scheduled from 12:30 "“ 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.Jim departed this earth on January 16, 2015. He was born July 3, 1949 in Shreveport to James Granger Harriss, Jr. and Helen Carmichael Harriss. A graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, Jim graduated from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge and was a successful commercial real estate developer.Affectionately known as "Big Harry, Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Ilgenfritz Harriss; his three children, J. Granger Harriss IV of Shreveport (wife, Allyson Price Harriss); Kasey Harriss Hayley of Baton Rouge (husband, Schuylor Dee Hayley); and Wesley Harriss Alter of Napa, CA (husband, Michael Benjamin Alter); six grandchildren: 3 granddaughters - Ayden Nicole Pinegar, Kaitlyn Lee Pinegar, and Mackenzie Brooke Pinegar; 3 grandsons - Hudson Michael Alter, Grant Benjamin Alter, and Finn Hamilton Alter; and his 3 siblings: Janet Harriss Dean (husband, Hugh Dean), Jeffrey Martin Harriss (wife, Connie Harriss) and June Harriss Thomas (husband, Harold Thomas).Jim was also extremely close to his Kappa Sigma brothers of '67 and his friends of the Woodlawn Hunting Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman; Jim enjoyed every aspect of life - especially entertaining his family and friends. Jim's family would like to acknowledge his special friends: Tim Allen, Walter Berry, David Braddock, Robert Davis, Jimmy Gosslee, Porter Horgan, Pat Mabry, Micky Pugh, and Tim Screen.The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Robinson Rescue (2515 Line Ave., Shreveport, LA 71104), or a charity of your choice.
