Mr. James “Jimmy” Sidney Holliday, Jr., 81, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, died peacefully at home on March 18, 2022. Mr. Holliday was born March 6, 1941, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but began his school years in Grosse Tete, Louisiana. His family moved back to Baton Rouge while his father was in the army during WWII. Mr. Holliday graduated from Catholic High School in 1959. He received his undergraduate degree in finance and economics and his Law degree from LSU in 1962. He was editor of the LSU Law Review, and he received his Juris Doctor from LSU in 1965. Professionally, Mr. Holliday was a well-respected attorney and mediator for over fifty years in Baton Rouge focusing in the areas of construction litigation, corporate law, contracts, and trusts. Mr. Holliday authored multiple articles and books related to construction and trust law in Louisiana, and he was a frequent guest lecturer at the College of Engineering at LSU in Baton Rouge on the topic of construction and engineering law. He was admitted to the bar in Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Washington D.C., and to the United States Supreme Court. While Poland suffered under martial law, Mr. Holliday drafted and formed a Louisiana agricultural cooperative. He visited Warsaw to negotiate with governmental officials for the sale of U.S. grain to Poland using WWII bunkers in Malta for storage. Mr. Holliday loved music, travel, and the arts. He shared his love of the arts, education, music, and animals with his family. There was always music playing in the Holliday house. He especially enjoyed Broadway musicals. Mr. Holliday enjoyed playing the guitar and collecting Jeeps. He regularly played the guitar at church and at one point, he managed a blues band. Mr. Holliday enjoyed furthering his learning through travel and reading. Jimmy will be greatly missed by his community, friends, and family. He is survived by his children Stephen James Holliday (Hollea) of Baton Rouge, Laurie Holliday Hoyland (Doc) of Marietta, GA, Amy Holliday Leggat (Mike) of Charlotte, NC, and Jennie Holliday Braselton (Dude) of Indialantic, FL, from his first marriage to Clara Frances Broussard of Baton Rouge. His stepchildren: William Thomas "Tommy" Heflin, Jr. of Galliano, LA, Colonel (USAF) Kristin Heflin McCoy (Jason) of Powell, OH, and Kendall Heflin Holderith (Tom) of Baton Rouge, his sister Honorable Linda L. Holliday of Baton Rouge, 15 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Walker Holliday, his father Mr. James Sidney Holliday, his mother Mrs. Ione Grace McKay, his sister Aurelie Grace LeBlanc, and his brother Dr. Dwight Charles Holliday. Visitation will be Friday, March 25, 2022, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., with visitation continuing Saturday, March 26, 2022, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church from 11 A.M. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 P.M. with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park following Mass.
