James “Jim” Elmo Parent, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 94. He was born on July 3, 1931, in Carville, LA. Jim was raised in the country and graduated from St. Gabriel High School, where he proudly played 7-man football. As a young man, he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War. Jim retired from Dow Chemical after 33 years of dedicated service as a Security Specialist, where he was affectionately known as “Mo.” He was a devoted father and grandfather who never met a stranger and was known for his generosity, kindness, good humor & singing silly songs. Jim found joy in the simple things — camping, cooking, family gatherings, and cheering on his children and grandchildren at every event. He loved sports and was happiest surrounded by the people he loved. He is survived by his children James “Skip” Parent, Jr., Cynthia Hope (Ricky), Michelle Guidroz (Doug); grandchildren, Chante' McRae (David), Jacob Ferchaud (Tim), Chris Ferchaud (Jana), Ashley Hope, Katie Chaffin (Grant), Amie Stockstill (Joel), Ricky Hope, Doug Guidroz (Brooke), Daniel Guidroz (Annie) and Jason Guidroz; sister, Janice Reno; and a host of other loving family members. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Angelle Carpenter; his parents, John and Angele Parent; and siblings. Jim’s kindness, laughter, and unconditional love will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Visitation will be at St. Thomas More, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 12pm until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to The Crossing at Clarity Hospice, for their compassion & care of our father, especially Dana and Sylvia.
