Dr. James “Sam” Samuel Rogers passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 89. Sam obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Agriculture from University of Georgia. He eventually received his PhD in Soil and Water Physics from University of Illinois. After 40 years of service, he retired from the USDA. During his career, he and his wife, Marilyn, fostered over 70 children in the state of Florida. He enjoyed woodworking, Ancestry.com, and traveling. Sam always had a smile on his face and took the time to help anyone when needed. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family. Sam is survived by his daughter, Pam Tucker (Jeff); grandchildren, Marilyn Young, Rebekah Tucker, Thomas Tucker, Matthew Perkins (LeaAnn), and Luke Perkins (Megan); great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Aiden, Madilynn, Scarlett, Bjorn, Chance, Mabel Mae, Luke, Clay, and Kaylee; siblings, Tom, Jack, Harold, Roy, Paul, and David Rogers, Martha Whitehead (Randy), Judy Garrison (Garnet), and Kathy Nicks (Tommy); and a host of other loving family members. Sam is preceded in death by his wives, Marilyn Eubanks Rogers and Sarah Smith Rogers; parents, Jim and Bessie Mae Rogers; and brother, Ben Rogers. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 11am until the time of funeral services at 2pm.
