

James "Jim" Smelley, native of Lecompte, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on March 12th at the age of 70. Jim was a first class electrician who was employed at Ethyl and retired from Castrol. He was a member of the US Army Reserves and was an active member of Istrouma Baptist Church. Jim epitomized classic American values as a man who loved his beautiful late wife Jennie and his most cherished grandson, Nathan James. He will be remembered for his love of God, country and family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his son James Blake Smelley of Moses Lake, WA; grandson Nathan James Smelley of Anacortes, WA; sister Phyllis Smelley Achord and her husband Jack Achord. He is preceded in death by his wife Jennie Carol Smelley; parents Aubrey J. and Reba Blake Smelley. He was a special "Pops" to Megan, Max, Anna Clair and Emma. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Visitation will be held on Monday March 17th, 2014 at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 5pm to 9pm. Visitation will resume on Tuesday March 18, 2014 at 10:00 am until funeral service at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
