On Monday, April 12, 2021, James William "Jim" Sykora, loving husband and father of two sons, passed away at the age of 66. Jim was born on March 4, 1955 in Anniston, Alabama to James and Billie Sykora. After moving to Baton Rouge in 1968, he graduated from Broadmoor High School in 1973 and received his bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University in 1978. On August 16, 1975, he married Dianne Dearman. They raised two sons, Jon and Jay. A lover of athletics, Jim was a high school standout on the baseball field, and spent many years coaching various sports teams as well as supporting the LSU Tigers whenever possible. He was a member of The Chapel on the Campus in Baton Rouge; a church where he was an original founding member. He had a successful career as an industrial salesman, most recently as Regional Sales Manager for Nutec during the last 7 years. He loved his family deeply, and perhaps his proudest accomplishment was being "PaPaw" to his five grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his brother Garland Sykora and father James Sykora. He is survived by his wife Dianne, his sons Jon (Nikki) and Jay (Courtney), mother Billie Sykora, sisters Janet Dearman (Bill), and Jeanine Cusimano (Frank), grandsons Weston, Jake, and Cooper, granddaughters Charlotte and Evelyn, and various cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Monday, April 19, 2021 at Chapel in the Oaks on Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Baton Rouge General ICU Unit in memory of James W. Sykora. The nurses in the Unit showed extraordinary loving-kindness to Jim in his last days.
