James “Jim” Allan Waite passed peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 71 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born in Colorado and lived for more than 40 years in Louisiana, where he graduated from LSU School of Architecture. He was retired from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, where he worked as a Plan Review Architect and Certified Building Official. Jim was a skilled woodworker, an avid genealogist and heraldic artist, and a devoted cat dad to Aife and Ollie.
Jim is survived by his wife, Susan Leche Waite; daughters Lindsey E. Waite of Brusly, Louisiana, and Kelsey J. Waite and Sophia Sarantakos of Denver, Colorado; grandson Adler James Hans of Brusly, Louisiana; and sister Susan W. Chase (Malon) of Garner, North Carolina.
To honor Jim's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with a scattering of his ashes in both Louisiana and Colorado. The family sincerely thanks all of the medical personnel in the Neuro Critical Care Unit at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for their excellent medical care. We ask that, in lieu of sending flowers, you donate to a local animal shelter of your choice.
