Janet Lynn Barnes passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge after a courageously fought battle with acute leukemia. She was 59, born March 25, 1951. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melrose "Millie" and Stephen McNeil Barnes. She is survived by a loving brother, Steve Barnes, of Baton Rouge; and many cousins and friends. She was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and LSU and a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. Janet Lynn recently retired from the Louisiana Department of Social Services and was past president of The Exchange Club of Baton Rouge. In 2009, Janet Lynn won the National Exchange Club Award as a distinguished club president. She also was a member of the LSU Bengal Belles and an avid LSU football fan. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the fifth floor at Ochsner Medical Center, O'Neal Lane, for the kindness and compassion shown to Janet Lynn, and special thanks to Janet Lynn's cousin, Kelley Harris, for her love, care and unwavering support. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home chapel, 825 Government St., on Tuesday, Jan. 4, was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Wednesday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. James Rollins. Burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Janet Lynn's cousins, Allen Harris, Larry Harris, Jay Harris, Bradley Harris, Clay Harris, John Hendry and Tre Hendry. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Barnes, John Fountain, Richard Flicker, Michael Prejean and Chris Farr.
