Psalm 45:15-16. Janet Kathleen Churchman Langlois, 63, passed away peacefully Friday night, March 1, 2013, in Baton Rouge. Janet was born August 18, 1949, in DeRidder, Louisiana, to the late Clarence and Ann Churchman. Janet was happily married to Gregory Langlois for 42 years. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Janet made it her life's work to improve the education system in Louisiana. She studied at NSU in Natchitoches where she was the SGA Vice President, Winter Ball Queen, Mardi Gras Queen Iris, and a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Janet went on to receive her master's degree in administration and supervision at LSU. She began her career as an elementary classroom teacher and went on to become president of the Louisiana Reading Association, District Director of Baton Rouge LRA, co-designer of the Early Literacy Initiative Project at SLU, former Assistant Director of the State Title I Program, creator of the Education for Homeless Children and Youth and the Even Start Family Literacy programs in Louisiana, lifetime supporter of the Louisiana 4-H program, and co-developed the LINCS Process and administered it for 9 years in the Louisiana Department of Education. Throughout the 41 years of her career, Janet earned numerous awards, the most prestigious being the Charles Dunbar Award. The Dunbar award was awarded by the Civil Service League and is the highest honor that classified state employees can receive for service to the citizens of Louisiana. Janet is survived by her husband Gregory Clark Langlois, one daughter Kristen and husband Brian Johnson; son Ryan and wife Sydney Langlois; grandchildren Devyn, Alexandra, and Austin Johnson and Brucie-Pup Langlois all of Baton Rouge; sister-in-law Peggy Churchman; brothers Jim and Sandra Churchman; Joseph Lee and Tracey Churchman; sisters Mary and Terry Greene; Teresa and Keith Daniel; brothers-in-law Cleve and Mary Lynn Langlois; Lionel Langlois; sisters-in-law Stephanie and Ron Scivicque; Stacie Langlois; 24 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers will be Bryan, Danny, and Erik Churchman, Terry Greene, Jr., Josh and Justin Langlois, and Mark and Matthew Daniel. Honorary pallbearers include Cody Scivicque, Jayce Langlois, Michael, Jason, Tyler, Collin, and Connor Churchman, and Dude and Luke Breaux. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to special family and friends that assisted with all the travel, appointments, and care in Baltimore, Houston, and Baton Rouge. We love you and we couldn't have done it without you. Visitation will be Monday, March 4, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. A Rosary will be recited at 7 PM. On Tuesday, March 5, there will be a church viewing from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 1:00. Interment service at Greenoaks Crestview Mausoleum. The family requests that memorials be made to Johns Hopkins Brain Cancer Research, Baltimore, MD; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; The Carpenter House; Churchman Scholarship Fund.
