Janice Claire Simmons Bailey went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, surrounded by those who loved her most. Janice was born May 2, 1931, in Bogalusa. She was raised in Gloster, Miss., where she graduated as valedictorian from Gloster High School in 1948. She later received an associate's degree from Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in Wesson, Miss. On June 21, 1958, she married her best friend, Herbert Carter Bailey. She retired from City National Bank, where she served as compliance officer. After she retired, she was employed by The Bible and Book Center. She and her husband were charter members of The Chapel on the Campus. She is survived by her sister, Gayle Poole; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy Bailey Bahlinger and Andy, and Pati Bailey Ivey and Clint; five grandchildren, Blair Bahlinger Walpole and her husband, J., Drew Bahlinger, and Bailey, Carter and Patrick Ivey; and her closest friends. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Carter; parents, Levy and Roberta Simmons; and brother-in-law, Oliver Poole. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Sunday, Sept. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m., officiated by the Rev. C. Earle Carpenter. Interment in Ellis Cemetery, Franklinton, at 2 p.m. Special thanks to Dr. Kevin Kilpatrick and his staff for their compassionate care. She will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to have known her. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Dunham School.
