"Love is patient, love is kind, love never fails." These words meant so much to Janis Penton who passed away peacefully on June 26, 2022 at her home in Baton Rouge. Janis was a resident of Baton Rouge and a former resident of Independence, Louisiana. She was 79 and was born on November 3, 1942. She was a hairdresser for 60 years, beginning her career at Allen and Rex in Baton Rouge in 1962. She continued her career at her home beauty salon finally retiring in 2022. She was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She married Charles Penton in 1992. She had one sister, Mary Jo Johnson (Greg), and their children, Amy Johnson and Chris Johnson (Denise) of Independence; 2 nieces, and 1 nephew, Ava, Dylan, Katy Jo. She made hundreds of friends during her career and was most proud of her relationship with Blanche (Granny) Daigre. Upon Blanche's death in 2015, Janis joined the Daigre family and became an active member of the family celebrating holidays and family outings. Jerry Daigre, who she called Mr. D, and the Daigre children, Beth Robbins, Laurie Knox, Amy Rabalais and Jay Daigre became her family, assisting her until her death. She thanked Jerry Daigre for being such a special friend and the Daigre children for providing such excellent care. Also many thanks to DeEtte Montalbano and Renee Crowell for their help during her illness. She is preceded in death by her father, Carolo LaMarca, her mother, Mary Morgan, and her husband, Charles Penton. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 10-11am with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11am at St. Jude Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, LA. Interment will follow at Independence Cemetery at 2:00pm.
