Jay Prothro

Jay Prothro, longtime resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice at the age of 86. He founded Jay’s Bar-B-Q in 1954 and was a longtime member of Jefferson Baptist Church. Jay is survived by his loving daughters, Connie Newton and husband Rick, Linda Sibley and husband Doc, and Pat Crawford and husband Dale; “adopted daughter,” Joye Young; grandchildren, Michael Newton and wife Coral, Rich Newton and wife Amy, Jason Crawford and wife Chelsy, Amy Chauvin and husband Chad, Brandon Meche and wife Angela, and Nicole Meche; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Bourgeois and husband Raymond; and brother, Bob Prothro and wife Frankie. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dale, and his parents. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 9:00 am until the funeral service begins at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
