"J.D. Anders, native of Centerville Mississippi and resident of Baton Rouge for the majority of his life, passed away on September 2nd, 2016 at the age of 81. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, from 6pm until 8pm, and Tuesday from 1pm until service at 2pm. J.D. was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. His younger adult years were spent in the honky-tonk lifestyle. He ran several bars, including The Rack and J.D.'s Place, always with a pipe in hand, smile, and frequent raised eyebrow expression on his face. He always remained a loving man with a soft heart. He was also a Veteran, and served in the Marine Corp from 1954 "“ 1963. J.D. loved to entertain people with colorful stories, singing, and cooking. He was an excellent fast-pitch softball pitcher and pool player. He also loved to play golf at the now closed Brier Wood Country Club and the weekly senior tournaments at the LSU golf course. We thought we would have a few more years with JD but he was not a fan of getting old and especially did not like the idea of others taking care of him. He would much prefer a glass of scotch and water over ice, smoking a pipe, playing pool or golf, none of which he could physically do in his senior years. In the second chapter he found joy spending time with loved ones and watching the LSU Tigers and all other sports for that matter with two and sometimes three TVs going. He also became a beloved part of the St. Jean Vianney family attending mass every Sunday with his wife Marie. Many loved to hear him read with his deep, baritone voice, and passion for the message being conveyed. J.D. was preceded in death by his mother, Myra Humphreys Anders; father, John Darden Anders Sr.; sisters Norma and Sandra; sons John and Danny; and daughter Susan. He is survived by Marie Adams, his wife of over 20 years; his son David Anders and wife Susie; daughter in law Sissy Anders; eight grandchildren Brandon, Jordan, Victoria, Maggie, Ben, Abby, Bella, and Evie; brother Ron Anders and wife Lyn; sister Carla Fisher and husband Tim. "A man and a friend are playing golf one day. One of the guys is about to put when he sees a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops in mid-put, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows down in prayer. His friend says: Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You truly are a kind man. The man then replies: Yeah, well we were married 35 years." Dad loved that joke and kept that sense of humor to the day he died. He was deeply loved, and will be forever missed.
