Jean Marie Bourg Ellis (90) passed away on June 1, 2019 at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana surrounded by her immediate family. She was a native of Baton Rouge, and the only daughter born to Emile Joseph Bourg, Sr. and Mabel Elizabeth Thompson Bourg on July 19, 1928. Her father and four brothers were all active in the United States Marine Corps. Following her 1945 graduation from St. Joseph’s Academy, she went to work for the Louisiana AFL-CIO where she was the assistant to Gordon Flory and later to Victor Bussie. Jean broke with family tradition and risked her brothers’ wrath when she married the love her life, Albert James Ellis, a United States Navy Veteran, in September 1956. Their family was greatly blessed by the births of their two sons, David Noel Ellis and Randall (Randy) Kevin Ellis. Jean’s joy for life was evident to all around her. She loved the Gulf Coast and Tickfaw River, where she could be on the water, fishing and soaking up the sun. She loved reading thick, juicy novels and working crossword puzzles, in ink. Jean was always ready for a rollercoaster ride, Mardi Gras parade or trip to the casino. She was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was also founding member of Card Club and played cards with the same group of women for over 50 years. As well, she was beloved by the many four-legged, furry children who made their way across her threshold and called her mom. We are all so blessed to have been loved by our Steel Magnolia and she will be greatly missed. “Well done, good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your lord!” (Matt 25:21 NKJV)
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Emile Joseph Bourg, Sr. and Mabel Elizabeth Thompson Bourg; and her brothers, Emile (Sonny) Joseph Bourg, Jr.; John Ronald (Red) Bourg; George James (Jimmy) Bourg; and Jerry Henry Bourg. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert James Ellis; her sons, David Noel Ellis and Randall (Randy) Kevin Ellis; grandchildren Curtis Taylor Ellis, Victoria Noelle Ellis and Blake Anthony Ellis; sisters-in-law Mildred Martinez Bourg, Marie Hilda Levy Bourg and Lucille Ellis Uffman (Glen N. Uffman), and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Norman Francis Bacon, Jr., James Bradford Bourg, Jr., Kevin Lee Bourg, Steven (Chip) Wayne Bourg Jr., Michael Glenn Landrum and Parker Matthew Landrum. Honorary Pallbearers are James (Skipper) Bradford Bourg, Sr., Michael Duane Bourg and Steven Wayne Bourg, Sr.
